Tesco Express named as the retailer in Sandyford retail development

Muller has announced Tesco as the latest tenant at its new retail development site in Sandyford, Stoke-on-Trent. A Tesco Express will occupy a 3,500 sq ft convenience retail unit at Sandyford.

The site will be anchored by a Costa Drive Thru. A further two units make up the development, one at 1,200 sq ft and the other at 500 sq ft.

Work on the site, which has a gross development value of £3.2m, commenced recently with completion of the Costa expected in November this year.

The group acquired the land, which sits on a prominent roundabout position on High Street, and began marketing the current scheme in 2019. The plot allows easy access to the A50 and M6 beyond.

Colin Muller, chief executive of Muller, said: “We identified this site as having significant development potential in 2006. A number of historic planning permissions were secured for a range of industrial uses for which end users weren’t forthcoming, so we decided to revisit a different mix of uses.

“We worked closely with the local community and carried out an extensive consultation exercise which resulted in us gaining the support of the Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association and that ultimately resulted in a recommendation for approval in 2018.”

Legat Owen advised Muller on the deal with Wright Silverwood acting for Tesco.
