The site is located on the outskirts of Leominster in the area known as Barons Cross, a 25 minute walk away from the town centre and only 7 minutes by bike. The closest bus stops are located on Baron’s Cross Road, approximately 200m from the site frontage with buses running to and from the town centre. Leominster is a market town in Herefordshire, and is 12 miles north of Hereford and 7 miles south of Ludlow in Shropshire.
The northern edge of the site adjoins a green area that was the site of Barons Cross Military Hospital in WWII, but is currently under consideration for planning permission for its redevelopment for up to 425 dwellings.
The proposal for a new purpose-built 84 high-quality bedroom care home will address the needs of Leominster elderly population for decades to come. The home will be a state of the art home for residents, designed around a number of sub-communities with their own dedicated amenity space, nursing station and en-suite wet rooms, to each bedroom. The bedrooms will be complete with assistive technology monitoring and other specialist adaptations to meet specialist needs such as dementia, neurological disorders and chronic nursing needs including palliative care.
The proposed care home will also:
- Be registered with the Care Quality Commission with an industry leading design.
- Provide a parking provision of 38 spaces, including 2 disabled bays and a dedicated service area with an ambulance/mini-bus drop off area.
- Regenerate a brownfield site, replacing the existing haulage yard with a sensitively designed development befitting of its surroundings.
- Reduce HGV movements around the area compared to the site’s current use.
- Employ around 75 FTE jobs created through the new care facility.
