Proposal
The proposed care home site lies to the northwest of Paulton, a large village and civil parish in Somerset with a population of around 5,300. Situated near the northern edge of the Mendip Hills, it is conveniently located just 13 miles south of Bristol and 9 miles southwest of Bath. The site offers excellent transport links, with easy access via road, taxi, or bus. Nearby transport hubs include Bristol Airport Station, Bristol Temple Meads, and Bath Spa Station, all offering direct connections to London.
Muller is submitting an outline planning application for the creation of a modern care facility to address a well-documented shortage of high-quality, en-suite care beds in the area. The proposed development will deliver a bespoke care home specialising in end-of-life and dementia care, providing 84 spacious en-suite bedrooms across a part 2.5-storey, part 1.5-storey structure designed to high architectural standards.
The building’s linear layout is specifically designed to support the operational needs of an 84-bed facility. Its orientation has been carefully chosen to maximise views while maintaining suitable distances from neighbouring properties. The design also respects the site’s natural features, including an existing drainage route and varying topography.
Access for vehicles and pedestrians will be directly from Hallatrow Road (B3355), with dedicated parking for staff and visitors located at the northern boundary of the site. The grounds will feature landscaped areas and communal outdoor spaces for residents. Most of the existing mature trees will be preserved to maintain the natural buffer, with new planting incorporated to enhance the site’s landscape and ecology.
